  • What differentiates your school from all others?

Rochambeau is the only accredited French school in the Washington DC area offering France's renowned early preschool education, "La Maternelle". The French curriculum starts as of age 2 and runs in cycles through 12th grade, and the Maternelle is the where the foundations are build from age 2 through kindergarten. Albeit, part of a larger system, the Maternelle remains separate, ensuring that the children are educated in a warm and nurturing environment.
The French preschool education was first established in the 1880's to ensure consistent high quality education in early childhood. The French preschool teachers are selected and trained in a rigorous competitive process, and receive the same training to reach at preschool or elementary levels. The French curriculum in the preschool is taught in French and English. Children will learn to navigate in both languages through the various disciplines of logical thinking, mathematics, communication, oral and written skills, relation of the body in space and through physical education.

  • What kind of student is most successful at your school?

The student that is most successful is the child who feels that she/he has the support of their family and the commitment to continue through the program for mastery in both French and English . For the children entering our program with limited or no French, it can be challenging. Parents need to understand that becoming bilingual is a long process, and benefits of choosing a bilingual education are proven, but the road to get there can be at times challenging!
