Christ Episcopal School (CES) is a diverse community celebrating over 50 years of academic excellence in historic downtown Rockville. A ministry of Christ Episcopal Church Prince George’s Parish, founded in 1726, CES honors its history while also embracing families of all faiths. We provide a rigorous and rich private school education at an affordable price. And, in addition to the resources provided by Rockville and the metropolitan Washington, DC area, our instruction reaches beyond our location in Rockville Town Center. We have now partnered with YMM Art Space, an international art education organization with worldwide locations, to provide our students with a superb visual arts program that is enriched with YMM Art’s global expertise. We also have an international student program, allowing us to assist students in obtaining an F1 Student Visa. This year, we particularly look forward to proceeding with our building plans and facilities update. In spring 2019, we will break ground on a brand new building for our Lower School, administrative offices, library, art studio and practice gym with locker rooms. This past summer, we renovated the large all-purpose event space in one of our current buildings into a beautiful and multi-functional venue.
Our strong, collaborative curriculum provides a healthy challenge for students, giving them room to grow as individuals. The academic program also includes an emphasis on teamwork. CES students become experienced members of teams that research, collaborate and problem solve together, acquiring skills and values that support acceptance, appreciation and support of one another in both academic and social situations.
Students leave CES well prepared for the rapidly changing world in which they live and are welcomed into top independent schools and public school honors and magnet programs.
At Christ Episcopal School, every student and parent is a priority, and academic excellence, respect, and a passion to serve are the inspiration for our community. What differentiates your school from all others?
Christ Episcopal School (CES) bases curricula on LIFT: Learning Integration For Tomorrow, a curriculum delivery model that represents what the best of educational research indicates is the effective model for 21st century teaching and learning. This collaborative project focuses on in-depth training of all CES faculty so that every child in every classroom is receiving the benefits of teachers who know and use research-supported best practices. The goal for LIFT is to improve student achievement for all CES students and to prepare them to thrive beyond the CES experience: in their families, in their community, and in their next educational environment including secondary and post-secondary programs.
Where do you see your school in 5 years, what will be different?
Being a teaching school for the faculty of other schools, so they can learn to teach using LIFT.
Whats one myth about your school thats just not true?
We price our tuition to be inclusive to the Greater Rockville Area. People often assume less tuition, less education. That's not the case at CES. We may not have the biggest buildings or largest playing fields, but we have a superb academic program that is second to none. Our tuition dollars are used directly for an outstanding faculty and outstanding program. You won't see our ads in a lot of magazines or newspapers. We'd rather use tuition dollars in the classroom.
What kind of student is most successful at your school?
We love wonderful children from wonderful families.
Why should we choose your school?
Small Class Size
With an average class size of 10-15 students, teachers develop and sustain close relationships with students and their families and can provide what every CES student needs.
An Outstanding Faculty
CES teachers are dedicated to the art of teaching and committed to their own professional development. 73% of our teachers have Masters degrees, and our Head of School holds a Doctorate degree in education.
A Family School
Our programs engage parents and families in our educational program and in our broader community. Our decisions take families' needs to heart. Through the activities of the Parents Association, parents find ways to participate and contribute.
LIFT: Learning Integration for Tomorrow
A Values-Centric Education on the Digital Frontier. LIFT is a powerful, 21st century curriculum delivery model developed by Christ Episcopal School and Johns Hopkins University's Center for Technology in Education. It provides the opportunity for students to take the excellent instruction received and, in addition to individual assignments, use it in team-based research, problem solving and collaboration...critical skills needed in our students' futures.
Each year, our teachers engage in professional growth programs locally and across the country. From the essentials of Language Arts and Mathematics to extension activities and "specials," teachers continually refine materials and methods to ensure best practices and classroom effectiveness.
Each day begins with a spiritual service that affirms our faith in the Episcopal traditions and the values that will carry our students through the day.
Daily Physical Education
CES is dedicated to educating the mind, body and spirit. Students engage in daily PE as every young mind needs daily exercise.
Our Service Learning program teaches children the value of giving back. Our curriculum and service opportunities reinforce one another, leading to deeper reflection. Students engage in service to local, regional, and global communities, connecting them to a purpose larger than themselves.
