What differentiates your school from all others?
Students at AppleTree Schools benefit from a different experience than they would at other pre-school and pre-K programs because:
-A focus on your child: We know that ages three and four are a critical time in your child’s development, so that’s all we teach – and we’re determined to do it right. Our teachers are well-trained to meet each child’s needs and prepare them to succeed in kindergarten.
-A size you can manage: Transitioning from daycare is a big step. Large environments with older students can be distracting, disruptive, and intimidating. Our focus on three- and four-year olds helps ensure that children are in an environment where they feel safe and free to learn.
-A quality staff: AppleTree educators are quality, caring professionals. We have at least two instructors in each classroom, including a Lead Teacher with a Bachelor's degree, meaning that each child will receive the specialized, individual attention that he or she needs.
-Convenient locations: AppleTree has 10 campuses across Washington, DC. We offer options and assistance to help families select the school location that best meets their needs. We also offer Extended Day Programs for students to keep them engaged in learning after the traditional school day.
-Meaningful results: Children learn more at AppleTree -- and they have fun doing it! Our students are better prepared for Kindergarten than their non-AppleTree peers, showing greater mastery of early literacy, reading, and math.
-An innovative approach: Our award-winning instructional model, called Every Child Ready, was developed by AppleTree just for three- and four-year olds. We continuously test and improve this model to ensure that children are learning and exploring through play and appropriate instruction.
Where do you see your school in 5 years, what will be different?
AppleTree is the first early learning public chartered school in the District of Columbia. We started the charter school in 2005. Since then, we have grown to 6 campuses and our business model as of 2013 extends to our early learning program by twinning/partnering with other charter schools. This twinning allow charters to work together doing what they do best, focusing on areas where they have expertise. AppleTree has no business teaching first grade. We’ve been around for years focusing only on early childhood. These parings allows two schools doing what they do best to support the success of children from preschool through 8th grade.
Whats one myth about your school thats just not true?

What kind of student is most successful at your school?
AppleTree serves all three and four year old children residing in the District. Our data shows the most social/emotional and cognitive gains are made in our children who are At-risk living in the District's most vulnerable neighborhoods.
Why should we choose your school?
· AppleTree’s two-year program allows educators to use assessment tools that give students access to materials, activities, and instruction to meet their individual learning needs
· AppleTree’s Every Child Ready curriculum was developed to give students the support and intervention they need early on, rather than waiting until they fail
· Remaining through two years of preschool at AppleTree allows parents and families to engage as active participants in their children’s learning experiences
· When students finish the two-year program at AppleTree, they score 20% higher on tests than non-AppleTree students
· The benefits of the two-year program continue into elementary school. Compared to their counterparts, AppleTree students:
o Recognize more letters in kindergarten
o Are better readers in first grade
o Are stronger oral readers by second grade
