Our child will turn 3 in early December. Do most preschools run like schools (Sept-Jun) or do kids come and go? This is our first and not many of my close friends have kids yet, so I am just wondering?

    Hycliff,

I am a former preschool director in DC. Most DC preschools run on the same schedule as the private schools with one wrinkle: the “admission” season is very short and typically occurs during January-February of the same year your child would start. For example, if you are looking to start your child in September 2016, you should start looking now and apply when available. Likely you will need to decide which preschool to choose in Jan/Feb of this coming year.

    So,

I would encourage you start looking now because come Jan/Feb you’ll need to decide if you are lucky enough to get multiple acceptances. Be realistic. Your child will likely not get accepted by every school, but do not take it personally.

    I hope that’s helpful!
